This year’s competition recognizes 23 screenplays, 6 original music compositions, 6 trailers and 7 posters, highlighting the creative work that goes into making and promoting independent films.
The screenplay selection includes The Last Nail by YVFF 2025 headliner James Morrison, American Sweetheart by Rebecca Jo Huston and Kate Taylor, with Rebecca also joining a special speaking session on Sunday, November 8, during the Filmmakers Meetup, and The $15 Million Dink: A Pickleball Noir by Jeff Ofstedahl.
The music composer category features YVFF alumnus Brian Katona, an Emmy® Award winning composer and Telly® Award winning producer, alongside five newcomers selected for the first time.
For us at YVFF, recognizing trailers and posters as competition categories is an essential part of supporting independent filmmaking. Indie filmmakers wear many hats, and the hustle and craftsmanship do not stop when the film is finished. The same goes for screenwriters and composers, whose work deserves opportunities to be discovered and recognized.
We are once again looking forward to our annual roundtable for screenwriters and composers, taking place this year on Saturday, November 7, at 9 a.m. sharp. The session offers an opportunity to exchange ideas, share experiences and connect with fellow creatives during the eighth Yucca Valley Film Festival.
