The heart of the Yucca Valley Film Festival is the Youth “Make Your Own Film” Workshop.

The program takes place before the festival begins and includes the making of a real narrative short film, from script to screening.

The workshop is offered for free to teens and young adults ages 14 to 22 years and is accomplished through two Saturday workshops as well as independent assignments.

Under the guidance of film professionals, participants will join as a creative movie team to write, prepare, and shoot a short film on location in Yucca Valley.

The short film will open the Yucca Valley Film Festival on Friday, November 15th, during the red carpet and kick off event.

The workshop will take place in two main parts:

  1. one day of writing the script >  Saturday, Nov 2, 10am to 4pm.
  2. one day of filming the movie > Saturday, Nov 9, 9am to 6pm.

In between the two Saturdays, kids may have very limited and specific assignments to help prepare the shooting of the film.

On set, during filming, each and every kid will directly participate in the making of the film, on a variety of missions including acting, camera work, directing, props, sound…

Space is limited, a final selection of students will be made from the applications received.

Registration opens September 26 and closes October 18.
